Did you know Scotty Hillier, the beloved host of Creek to Coast, is an On The Move ambassador?
While Scotty’s roots are deeply entrenched in fishing, his appreciation for caravanning has grown over time.
“Back in our day, we only camped. Mum and Dad didn’t have much money, it was just one big tent. I remember all five of us, three kids and Mum and Dad in the tent. Doing the show (Creek to Coast), I’ve been in thousands of them (caravans) now. The more I do, the more you fall in love with the lifestyle,” he said.
Now, as he balances his love for fishing with the comforts of modern caravanning, Scotty finds himself drawn to the ease and convenience of a well-equipped caravan.
“The big thing for me is that they’ve got everything,” he said.
“Shower, toilet, kitchen sink. You can cook on them, they’ve got awnings, outdoor cooking. So yeah, I’ve evolved, I guess with a lot of people, and have just fallen in love with the industry.
“If you ask me, right here, today, fishing or maybe go for a two or three day tour in the van? The van’s gonna get the nod.”
His decision to become an ambassador for On The Move wasn’t taken lightly.
“The big thing for me is that I’ve lived, eaten and breathed this industry for many, many years and I’ve been in many, many different types of RVs, many, many different types of boats, this and that,” he said.
“For me to actually sit back and go, right, it’s maybe time to put my name to something, it was pretty big,” Scotty said.
What made On The Move stand out?
“Robin and the whole team, they’re just good people. It comes down to trust, not only in the people but also in the brand. I know it’s good quality, I know it’s affordable,” he said.
On The Move offers a range of options that cater to different price points and towing capabilities.
“There’s something for everyone’s price point and you don’t need the biggest vehicles to tow some of them,” Scotty said.
“I do a lot with them on the show that I host (Creek to Coast), so that’s sort of a match made in heaven, so to speak. It’s a bit of an honour for me to be an On The Move ambassador and hopefully for many years to come.”
The Owners Retreat
One of the highlights of Scotty’s ambassadorship is the On The Move Owners Retreat, an event to bring caravan owners together for a weekend of fun and camaraderie.
The most recent event was in June this year, with about 100 On The Move owners heading out to a campsite at Kyogle in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.
He especially enjoyed spending an afternoon catching fish on the banks of the Tweed River with owners and their families.
His passion for teaching the younger generation and sharing his love for the outdoors is evident.
“Weekends like this, it’s not all about catching fish. It’s just… look at us, standing there with a rod in our hands, just relaxing, enjoying the afternoon,” he said.
“It’s all about the kids, isn’t it? The kids’ smiles from ear to ear. They don’t have to be big fish, they’re having a ball,” he said.
Looking ahead
As Scotty continues his journey with On The Move, he’s working on designing his own caravan with the team, ensuring it meets his needs and lifestyle.
“In the years to come, we’re going to design something and I’ll definitely be jumping into something,” he said.
